• FAQs

  • Are you registered with the British Acupuncture Council?
Geraldine is registered with the British Acupuncture Council, and adheres to their professional codes, assuring you of the highest standards of professional care.

Will I have needles in the first appointment?
The first appointment is to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the health and disease of all body systems and functions, to establish a sound diagnosis. The treatment plan will be decided based on this diagnosis so giving appropriate time to this ensures the best possible treatment outcomes. Treatment with needles will most likely begin at the second appointment.

How many treatments will I need?
An initial course of acupuncture treatment will often be five or six weekly sessions, with a view to extending the time between treatments as soon as the benefit of treatment is holding from one treatment to the next.

    Will I need ongoing treatment?
Where there is an ongoing underlying medical condition, often people benefit from continuing treatment every four to six weeks. Where health is restored acupuncture can continue to support ongoing wellness by either occasional treatments as and when this feels appropriate, or seasonally.

    Will acupuncture keep me well?
Often people seek acupuncture treatment where there is an ongoing complaint unresolved by the Western medical approach to treatment and procedure. Traditionally though, acupuncture was used to maintain good health.

Can I have Traditional Acupuncture with my GP/Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist/Osteopath/Chiropractor?
Some health professionals choose to introduce aspects of acupuncture into their own specialism. Traditional Acupuncture is a comprehensive model of health rooted in Chinese Medicine, which considers the presenting symptoms as one indicator of the health of a person. In diagnosis and treatment, consideration is given to all body systems and the physical, mental and emotional aspects of health, as well as lifestyle and environmental factors. The Traditional Acupuncturist is a specialist in this field.

    Does it hurt?
Geraldine uses fine needles to access carefully selected acupuncture points – mostly people find treatment very relaxing.
